Chapter 2: Proclamation of the Imperial Edict

Chapter Two: Reading the Imperial Edict

Rong Jing's carriage was lined with thick brocade quilts, and there were two hand warmers inside. Once Suo Yi got into the carriage, it felt as cozy as spring inside.

Yun Qianyue reached out to take one of the warmers in her arms, then shoved the other one into Rong Jing's embrace. Rong Jing took the warmer out and put it back into her arms. Yun Qianyue raised an eyebrow and looked at him; he smiled slightly and pulled her into his arms. His voice was soft and gentle as he said, "Holding you is much more comfortable than holding this!"

Yun Qianyue rolled her eyes and glared at him in amusement. She stretched out the sound of her words: "Mr. Rong, your taste is truly refined."

Rong Jing raised an eyebrow.

Huddled in his arms, Yun Qianyue murmured: "Who knows who used to be unable to leave the warm jade bed every day for ten years and held a warmer when going out. Why didn't he think about hugging me then"

"I did think about it back then; I was even heartbroken, but unfortunately, I didn’t dare to ask." Rong Jing sighed softly.

Yun Qianyue’s heart ached and she let go of the warmer. She reached out to hug his waist and buried her face in his chest, whispering: "From now on, can I be your hand warmer"

Rong Jing suddenly smiled and looked down at the person in his arms. She truly had a gentle heart; if not for Gu Zi Shu personally telling him about some of her past lives, that Jade Crown Prince wouldn’t have spoken any falsehoods. He really doubted whether that woman was indeed one and the same as this girl. He lowered his head to bury it at the base of her neck and said with a smile: "Alright!"

A blush slowly crept up Yun Qianyue’s face, feeling the warm breath on her neck, she felt her heart jump; she didn’t say anything.

Rong Jing watched as the redness gradually spread to Yun Qianyue's ears. He smiled silently and remained silent as well.

Inside the carriage was quiet, outside, the wheels of the carriage made a creaking sound over the snow-covered road while horse hooves left rhythmic sounds on the snowy ground. Large flakes of snow fell heavily from the sky, hitting the carriage roof; the black and shiny brocade covering the roof wobbled with the movement of the horses, causing the snowflakes to slide off onto the ground.

The two inside the carriage did not speak another word as they kept each other warm all the way back into the imperial city.

When the soldiers guarding the gate saw Rong Jing’s carriage, they quickly opened the city gates. The carriage entered smoothly with Wen Lai following closely behind.kills for some time now, but it's not a big deal." Yun Qianyue didn't think much of it and continued to lower her voice: "Although my initial motive wasn't pure, when I petitioned the Emperor for our...
